Air Panas Semangat Gunung & Lau Sidebuk-debuk

Sulphurous hot pools of about 40–45 °C on the southern slope of Mount Sibayak — a favourite soak after the climb.

The hot water emerges on the southern slope of Sibayak and is channelled into pools run by various operators, usually with gazebos, changing rooms and food stalls. Not far away, in Doulu village, is Lau Sidebuk-debuk, a hot spring the Karo traditionally also use for rituals. Sources place Lau Sidebuk-debuk in Doulu (Berastagi district) or Semangat Gunung (Merdeka district), as the two villages are neighbours.

🚗 Getting there: About 20 minutes from Berastagi towards Doulu/Semangat Gunung; ±1.5 hours from Medan.
🎟 Admission: Varies by operator, about Rp5,000–Rp25,000 per person (detikSumut, August 2024)
💡 Tip: Bring a change of clothes, don't soak too long in the hot sulphur water, and take off silver jewellery.
